Silverfish or Fish moths is a small, wingless insect. Its common name comes from the insects silvery light grey and blue colour, combined with the fish like appearance of its movements. They are mostly nocturnal and they fear light. Silverfish consume matter such as books, carpets, clothing, coffee, hair, paper and sometimes sugar. Silverfish can live for a year or more without eating. They have long antennas and move in a wiggling motion that resembles the movement of a fish. This characteristics and silvery scales influence their common name. They can have a life span of 2 up to 8 years.

Silverfish are considered household pests due to their consumption and destruction of property. However, although they are responsible for the contamination of food and other types of damage, they do not transmit disease
